Hillary Clinton to Appear on The Colbert Report?
[Cross posted from the CC Insider]
Not to be outdone by Michelle Obama, who will be on the show tonight, Hillary Clinton has been rumored for an appearance on The Colbert Report this week:
News of Clinton's visit was divulged Monday night in Philadelphia by MSNBC pundit Chris Matthews. He blurted it out during taping of the show at the University of Pennsylvania's Zellerbach Theater. The news was confirmed by a person close to the satirical news program, who insisted on anonymity because the date of the visit hadn't been publicly announced.
If you missed it, here's Chris Matthews' interview from last night.
Check out the Comedy Central Insider for Hillary Clinton's most recent appearance on The Daily Show.

I hope you don't have Hillary Clinton on your show right before the primary in Pennsylvania - even though you will be poking fun at her - you are still giving a message to your fans to vote for her - if you have her on - you need to have Barack Obama on as well. Jon Stewart made a fatal mistake of having Hillary on before the Ohio Primary and he didn't have Barack Obama on - it really sent a strong message to Jon Stewart's fans to vote for Hillary - you two may or may not be aware of how much influence you have on voters. Please be fair. If you have Hillary, have Barack on as well.
Bring it, Colbert! If you got the stones.
I've seen how you played nice with O'Reilly, but this is different. You might have wanted to have him on again, 'cause he's the source of your parody, and you need him as the wellspring of your jokes.
But Hillary's different. She has no future. Her bridges are burnt.
Colbert, I have never prayed to you before, I have no tongue for it, but I know that shouting pleases you.
Oh mighty Colbert, give me my REVENGE!
I'm not going to lie I hate Hillary Clinton, one might even say I'm "bitter" about how she has conducted herself during the course of this campaign. That said, I really hope Colbert delivers on this interview in a way Jon Stewart seriously didn't. There are only so many oppurtunities for an interviewer to ask a candidate the questions everyone really wants to ask, and I think Colbert is the guy to do it.
Hillary is going way beyond what I thought she'd do to reach out to all kinds of voters. Kudos to her for going on the show. I cannot wait to see how she and Stephen interact. My guess is that he is going to have a less aggressive attitude than usual.
I hope Stephen brings up how Barack is trouncing her in the Donors Choose straw poll. "What do your supporters have against Pennsylvania school children Senator?"
and by the way, I DO think you should have her on. Any candidate is fair game and she is always entertaining.
oops slight correction: a sweet guy, but like my father a hopeless sexist. I give aged men a slight break for cultural conditioning.
AND I hope that keeping her appearance a secret was not to circumvent all the anger at her appearance on TDS the night before the TX primary. NOT COOL. I have a lot of respect for Stephen Colbert. I guess it's silly to care. Just cable. But there aren't many admirable public intellectuals on tv.
I'm sure the "get" will override any political considerations. But it would be a sad thing to see Stephen Colbert put her on the night before the PA primary.
Kudos to Chris Matthews for circumventing your secrecy. I used to think he was a bit of a buffoon. But in fact, he seems like a pretty sweet guy if not exactly a top of the line intellectual. And I have to say I'm a bit scared at the thought of a Senate run. But hey he would heads and shoulders above a McConnell or a Todd Tiarht. He seemed nervous on your show. And you were kind which was admirable.
correction: "give her leverage" not giver.
I hope you don't put her on the night before the primary vote. Be fair. If you are having Michelle Obama on the week before, do the same with Clinton. Don't allow a "get" to giver her leverage on the vote: pls!
I know I'm wasting my breath. If the powers that be decide to let her pick her day then she'll do exactly what she did in TX.
Whatever. If we get stuck with Hillary Clinton as nominee, we'll have McCain as president. At that point, we are all so screwed we may as well turn into bitter small townies. As a small town gal from KS, I am already bitter but watching McCain trounce Clinton may do me in permanently and kill my voting instincts for good.
