Barack Obama on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart - How Did He Do?

POSTED BY: TheInDecider

Barack Obama's last television appearance on the night before the Pennsylvania primary was on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.   After a few rough weeks on the campaign trail including a vicious debate on ABC, will his appearance on The Daily Show be enough to push him over the edge in Pennsylvania?

Various polls say various things, running up to the primary, so the question is, will his appearance give him the advantage?   Was it enough that he put to rest the rumors regarding his white slave trade plans?

How do you think he did?

Also, yes, Primanti Brothers appears to still be open.

  1. There is an Oedipal drama playing out; Clinton runs amok like a 5 year old child pointing fingers and calling names, expecting special treatment, even though she should have withdrawn from the race for the good of the party. Barack seems to think the American public is mainly composed of adults and has adopted a paternal attitude of "she is a formidable opponent". Unfortunately, in a country used to finger pointing (at others) "she is a formidable opponent" condones her juvenile behaviour. Barack should start adopting the 'redeemer pose' and remind everyone that mudslingers generally have more to hide than to expose.

  2. Who the heck thinks he got any more of a royal treatment than Hillary did when she was on? This is why I should swear off reading comments. Jon doesn't actively embarrass people unless they set the tone or they really, really deserve it. That doesn't make for a good interview. Both candidates have done a satellite interview the night before a primary now; I think everyone can stop claiming "unfair, unfair" now.
Not that anyone will. So I'm going to go live in a cave until December.

  3. I agree with some of what has been said here -- very disappointing to see Mr. Obama get the royal treatment the night before the big vote in Pennsylvania on your show, wish we could rely on the show to help us laugh at what is going on, hate to see it go "unfair".

I was in the audience of the show the first night Mr. Obama came on --and after the show was at the "stage door" when he was being interviewed by Jeff Greenfield. It was the first time I realised how very slight Mr. Obama is -- physically and with what he has to offer. The contrast with Jeff was startling, since Jeff was a young guy debating William F. Buckley way back and has been a true pundit, well he really knows stuff. And Mr. Obama just did not have it in contrast, "no there, there" was the thought that came to mind. That was when I made the decision to support Hillary.

Fast forward to last night. Yes, a charming public persona, a great speechmaker and backstory, but capable of being President? Sorry to see you offer a big boost to this guy, Jon. When you have power you have, not to use it responsibly, VERY disappointing.

Meanwhile in New York, the important film Constantine's Sword opened and the author James Carroll was in town for that (as well as the Winebergs whose valient fight against the evangelical takeover at the Air Force Academy in included in the film). Now there would be some guests with something to say for all of us!

  4. Not likely!!! Sorry, but I don't think the Daily Show is known for its undecided/uninformed voter audience. Seriously, it's not exactly the show's primary demographic. However, if Obama had actually corrected Jon's pronunciation of Primanti Brothers that would have been a least a little impressive considering he has been to Pittsburgh how many times in last 6 weeks?!?

  6. P.S.

Obama reminds me of Tuvok from Star Trek: Voyager. I bet Captain Janeway would vote for him.

  7. I live in Pennsylvania, and I've been an Obama supporter since before he even entered the race (you know, back before he was on the cover of Newsweek and we talked about race v. gender in high school). I must say that his wife was great on Colbert's show, and he was downright impressive on the Daily Show.

The differences between Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton are definitely there, but as far as what the average American sees--I think the most important thing is that he's sincere. Hillary is just so fake. I was BORN in Scranton and I lived there for half of my life. To be honest, I don't know anyone in that entire county that would make a good President. She almost has Scrancer! That thing about her going out shooting with her grandpa at Lake Wanola? I've been to Lake Wanola tons of times! I went swimming there with my DOG. It has a paved sidewalk and an ice cream shop, honestly. I mean, my family has a hicked-out hunting cabin in the middle of Pennsylvania where they don't even have RADIO STATIONS, let alone grocery stores. I mean, a democratic candidate is going to be hard-pressed to actually relate to someone who is poor or who comes from a rural area, but at least Obama can keep it real.

Plus he's just so darn cute when he smiles. :p

KUDOS to Jon Stewart for throwing him the right cues to help show us that he's a cool guy.

  9. Yes it is neat to see the candidates appear as regular Joes on popular shows. It is entertaining and I do enjoy it. But the truth is they appear to be down to earth let's have a beer type people. The public buys it and votes on that public image. But truth be told anyone should realize that what they see is not what you're going to get. The power people, the high roller cash backers know what they are buying and what they will be able to get away with. It doesn't matter how cool the candidates seem. The big boys call the shots once they are in office, and the regular, hardworking citizen will accept whatever crumbs are fed to them. All Candidates are actors worthy of an Emmy or Oscar.Once they are in office you won't even recognize them.
