John McCain on The Daily Show

POSTED BY: TheInDecider

Don't forget to tune in to The Daily Show tonight to see John McCain's historic 13th appearance on the show.

Or do forget. What do I care? It's your business.

UPDATE: What I've learned from this interview so far -

  1. He's not sure what his Secret Service code name is, but thinks it's "Jerk."
  2. If he were to wear a propaganda t-shirt, it would have to be glow in the dark.
  3. John McCain has an excellent sense of comedic timing.
  4. McCain's out of context "100 years"quote was taken out of context.
  5. Politics is dissimilar to to bean bag.
  6. Dwight Schrute? WTF?

Many thanks to Sgt. Pepper Politics for live blogging McCain's appearance in the comments below. And many thanks to him for not linking to his own blog in every comment.

  1. McCain is a liberal. You should have a true conservative on your show- his name is Dr. Ron Paul!

  3. Jon,
Pleeeeeassseeee have the beloved Dr. Ron Paul on again!! Better yet, have a mini debate between Ron Paul and McCain - now that's television!! A gentleman with integrity, wisdom and knowledge of our diminishing constitution. We all know MSM has blacked him out. Besides, many of us get our news from you:)

  4. I was surprised to see McCain mention Ron Paul and I was happy to see Jon say that he liked him. It was a brave thing to say to McCain in this day and age when nearly everyone puts on the chapstick and slides under the desk. It was also a jab at Ron Paul to which he expected the audience to laugh at the mention of his name which did not happen. Thanks for a great interview Jon. I think that when McCain has to be on shows like yours it really shows his weaknesses clearly.

  5. It sickens me that McCain made that comment in jest of Ron Paul. He needs to eat his words on the very show he made these remarks, and Jon Stewart is the man to do it if enough of us asked.

Please help spread the message to help get a Republican Debate of the two remaining candidates on the Daily Show. If it happens, it might turn out to be just the straw needed to break the elephant's back!

Politics have become too bring when the three media-popularized senatorial candidates have together sponsored 86 bills in congress in the last two years. They're three of a kind.

Ron Paul vs. McCain together on the Daily Show. Now that's entertainment!

  6. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLLLLEASE have Ron Paul BACK ON, Jon!

There's a reason his book is now #1 non-fiction on the NYT Best Seller List and #1 on Amazon non-fiction, hardcover.

Talk to someone who actually "understands" economics and foreign policy vs. making light of it via comments more befitting "The Terminator" (I'm their worst nightmare). How did McCain fool THIS MANY PEOPLE to rack up delegates?!

  7. OK McCAIN--LET THE DEBATES BEGIN!

Jon should host a Republican debate between McCain and Ron Paul.
Now wouldn't that be a revolution?

    Please JON.....DO IT!

Your ratings will skyrocket and it would make for a jolly good show.

    PLEASE.

  8. John McCain was presented with an opportunity Wednesday to receive consideration of my vote when John Stewart asked him to denounce president Bush. If McCain had done this I would have changed my support from Obama to an undecided vote. Unfortunately for the senator, he chose not to denounce the worst president in the history of this country and now will not receive my vote.

Also I completely agree with the previous post about John McCain being the worst nightmare for HAMAS because he is unwilling to engage in the Israeli peace process even with Mahmoud Abbas. I mean what the fuck is John McCain even going to do to HAMAS? They aren't at war with us.

  9. On daily show McCain said that he's Hamas's worst nightmare. It is saying he is the worst nightmare of peace process in middle-east. There is an excellent article by Jonathan Powell in the most recent Prospect (http://www.prospect-magazine.co.uk/article_details.php?id=10129) on Northern Ireland peace process.
You cannot accomplish peace without forming communication channels with the extremists. Even if they are unreasonable, the channels need to be put in place and when the popular support for terrorism windles, you can co-opt Hamas. The problem in ignoring extremists, as Powell points out is that the extreme position always tie the hands of moderates in negotiations as they fear for the loss of support.
McCain - the self-proclaimed worst nightmare of those who look for peace in Middle-East?

Where are the questions about Rick Renzi, whom he got in a fist fight with, but eventually became friends with, who served in McCain's past campaign, and who’s now received a 53-count indictment against him by the FBI? McCain kept Renzi on as a co-chair of his Arizona campaign while running for office, after the guy was being investigated for all manner of misdeeds. Or the questions about Pastor Hagee. But beyond that, he befriended the late Jerry Falwell, who blamed 9/11 on Americans. He blamed it on gays and lesbians and a variety of other groups.
