John McCain on The Daily Show

Don't forget to tune in to The Daily Show tonight to see John McCain's historic 13th appearance on the show.
Or do forget. What do I care? It's your business.
UPDATE: What I've learned from this interview so far -
- He's not sure what his Secret Service code name is, but thinks it's "Jerk."
- If he were to wear a propaganda t-shirt, it would have to be glow in the dark.
- John McCain has an excellent sense of comedic timing.
- McCain's out of context "100 years"quote was taken out of context.
- Politics is dissimilar to to bean bag.
- Dwight Schrute? WTF?
Many thanks to Sgt. Pepper Politics for live blogging McCain's appearance in the comments below. And many thanks to him for not linking to his own blog in every comment.

I really believe Sen. McCain is sincere and is the right guy at the right time. He's right, raising taxes and being soft on national security is not what this country needs now.
Let's see. Do I want to vote for a guy who wants to continue these insane tax breaks for the ultra wealthy at the expense of 99% of the country? Ah, no. Do I want to vote for a guy who just LOVES pointless insane money and life draining and terrorist-enhancing wars? Ah, no. Do I want to vote for someone who does not know economics from a hole in the ground? No. Do I want to vote for someone who is in bed with Christian fundamentalists and will appoint far right wing lunatics to the Supreme Court? No. Do I want to vote for someone who is in favor of discrimination against gays? No Do I want to vote for someone who work his ass off to prevent Universal Health Care? No Do I want to vote for McCain? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Come on, Stewart - you raked Chris Matthews over the coals for loving politics, and you have a chance to expose the stealth neocon John McCain on your show for the 'historic 13th time' and lob softballs buddy buddy like.
Ask him about why he wont vote for the GI Bill if he loves the troops so much.
Ask him to back up his claims that things are improving in Iraq.
Ask him about his pledge to add more anti abortion pro corporate judges especially on the supreme court.
Come ON Jon - you are in a position of great responsibility and influence. Better use it wisely or the mess we're in will be infinitely worse in 8 years.
Get with it brother.
This guy should be the next president...a McCain/Stewart ticket ought to get things straight...then again we do have a host who earns a good living so I can live with McCain/Hilary...or even McCain/Huckabee...only McCain/Paul I will shudder (not that it will happen, but...)
Seriously, I don't get the hate against McCain. He's the guy for the job IMO in this kind of world. Not Obama who made so many mistakes under pressure and got a preacher who have said the wrong things (that's not helping him, let's face it). Not Hilary who fought on like a out-of-favour ex-girlfriend against the lovable wife-to-be (like the 'if I can't have it, you wouldn't either' type) . The writers got the point of the long flat seemingly endless bataan march right...let McCain show you guys why he should be president in '00...let him rectify the mistakes Bush and his team did...
(In interest of full disclosure, I am a Singaporean who is following the race as the political race of the year.)
I really lost respect for McCain based on this appearance. Was it necessary to refer to someone at the town hall meeting as an "attractive young woman"? His responses regarding his previous comments about Hamas 'endorsing' Obama were sleazy and unscrupulous, implying that somehow Obama would be easy on terrorists. While I respect the fact that McCain fought for his country and endured tremendous hardships, other aspects of his character were certainly brought into question last night. Another chauvanistic, possibly racist old white guy - not someone I want as my President.
Absolutely. I adore McCain. He's 100 times better than any of the dems this year.
I have so much respect for McCain; I think he is fundamentally a good man. I also think he's living with cold war sensibilities that bar any negotiation with the enemy. That worries me greatly. This november will be the first general election I am old enough to vote in. I still don't know who I will vote for, but either way McCain did a great job on the show.
When you're telling someone, face to face, that you think they're wrong about something really important, you shouldn't be making it into a big joke, especially a mean-spirited joke. There's something repulsive about the way Jon Stewart interviews John McCain. Although I find I agree more often with Stewart, I don't like or respect him nearly as much as I respect McCain, nor would I value him as much as a friend.
Here's a show which makes fun of other networks for dwelling on flag-pins and former ministers, and itself given the opportunity to ask, or even joke about, serious issues, it chooses to dwell on sensational issues in a mean-spirited manner.
Since the writers' strike, Stewart has seemed a bit desperate. I hope he gets himself together. He used to be great (or was it his former writers?) Except during the strike, I have watched the show continuously for three years now. But I'm going to drop it for six months. I hope, when I check it again, that the show has improved.
In this interview, McCain's comment that Hamas supports Obama was revisited, and McCain remained unapologetic. He seems to think that the support of Hamas is a point in his favor.
I have to disagree. I have lived in the Middle East for more than four years (Israel, the Palestinian territories, and Egypt), and am currently conducting research in an Arab community in Israel. My personal experience during this campaign has been that Arabs of all different political persuasions, including opponents of Hamas, also support Obama. This excitement about Obama also seems to stretch far beyond the Middle East. Hamas' support for Obama reflects not a connection between Obama and Islamic fundamentalism, but rather shared sense that a change in Washington will be good for the entire world.
I was very disapointed in this interview. It show how buddy buddy Jon is with the media darling, John McCain. No important questions were asked. John is no longer the maverick John liked, but a new born conservative who has always known how to smooze the press. Why does he get a frre ride? Sure McCain seems hip and irreverent to younger viewers but don't kid yourself. This guy wants to put conservatives on the Supreme Court and stay in Iraq. He has flip flopped on many of his issues. Mr. Stewart ought to pay more attention to this "new" McCain.
