John McCain on The Daily Show

POSTED BY: TheInDecider

Don't forget to tune in to The Daily Show tonight to see John McCain's historic 13th appearance on the show.

Or do forget. What do I care? It's your business.

UPDATE: What I've learned from this interview so far -

  1. He's not sure what his Secret Service code name is, but thinks it's "Jerk."
  2. If he were to wear a propaganda t-shirt, it would have to be glow in the dark.
  3. John McCain has an excellent sense of comedic timing.
  4. McCain's out of context "100 years"quote was taken out of context.
  5. Politics is dissimilar to to bean bag.
  6. Dwight Schrute? WTF?

Many thanks to Sgt. Pepper Politics for live blogging McCain's appearance in the comments below. And many thanks to him for not linking to his own blog in every comment.

  1. great interview and of course jon's not gonna insult him, don't be stupid. Jon's a very polite guy when he needs to be and Cain's been on the show 13 times ! so they have a good friendship. He has overall been courteous to all 3 candidates when they talked with him and has gotten a lot out of them, considering this is a fake news show!

  4. mcsame is funny and amiable. Pitty that he is such a bush/right wing sycophant. his policies would not be funny nor amiable for the future of the United States.

  5. Being respectful to one's elders is one thing, kissing their wrinkled behind is something else. Codename McDreamey, please give me a barf bag. Sen. McBush contention that he is AlQuida's worst nightmare is as ridiculous as his pandering proposal to suspend the federal gas tax without any way to pay for it. Who's for fiscal responsibility again. Sen. McBush has reversed his position on so many issues that his car must no longer have a D on the shift. Jon Sewert who has for so long riduculed others for not asking meaning or revelent questions of politicans certainly lowered the bar last night. Look in the mirroe Jon your just another flack.

  6. Is softball the word of the day? Has everyone been copying and pasting their blogs. I didn't hear people cry like this when Stewart babied Obama and coached him through everything Barak wanted to say. John Stewart hit every talking point: the war, Bush, his opposing candidates. John was forced to be respectful because he rarely has an intelligent guess on the show. Plus he was talking to the future president. And they do have a semi-friendship since the Daily Show's intro to the elections in 2000 involved riding around in McCain's campaign tour bus. McCain is the strongest, most genuine candidate running. No one likes to go to war, but in a time where there is a religion that thrives on eliminating us and our way of life, I rather have an x-war hero then a flower picking hippy that lies from everything from his upbringing to his spiritual and political influences.

  7. How can you be disappointed in Jon Stewart's interview with McCain? First of all, as Jon has pointed out on many occasions, this is a COMEDY show. And I mean, they are kind of friends, the guy's been on his show 13 times, despite political differences. I don't think it's disappointing that Jon was polite to McCain at all. He still asked hitting questions. It's a good point that this kid's been on the show 13 times and Clinton and Obama have not. Considering McCain's views are NOT popular by the majority of this show's viewers, and he still showed up, At least McCain's got balls. Come on people, be a little open-minded about this. Good interview, although I wish McCain WOULD denounce Bush. I really like McCain, but NOT for president. I still say kuddos to you sir, for going on the show. And kuddos to Jon Stewart, for being a civilized host to a consistent friend of the shows.

  8. dwight schrute for veep!? while that actually sounds pretty cool, if mccain would happen to die that would leave the country in a DIRE leadership crisis, although none could ever doubt his devotion to the job if they've ever seen an episode of the office. ha ha. obama for president still if you're asking me now, i think he's more committed to the re-establishment of the middle class (a middle class that used to be the strongest in the world!) and to improving the united states' diplomatic standing abroad. if you're seriously still tossing around veep ideas, may i suggest ron paul? and given the republican party's track record on race relations, i'd have to say it's rather insulting that McCain called the modern republican party "the party of lincoln".

"It must be really hard for McCain, a moderate, to run. He is essentially a moderate republican- something closer to a classical libertarian than a conservative." (well said, Tom).
