The Daily Show with Jon Stewart: You Probably Don't Understand the Iraq War

POSTED BY: TheInDecider

Former Bush Administration Under Secretary of Defense Douglas Feith was on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart tonight to set the record straight on the Iraq war. Apparently we were not mislead misled into war. I believe him. Unless he's misleading me now...

Anyway, Jon started summer early by firing up the grill and sticking Feith on it. Listen to the defense of a man who was in the room when all the planning went down and decide if it flips your script.

  1. We went into Iraq to establish control over their oil..., despite what all the apologists for the Administration have to say; not to establish democracy.

And, what do we have: no oil - 4,000 (of ours) dead.

  2. THE Stanley Hilton- the one whose fascist interests ended his 1 year stint with Sen. Dole; whose $7 billion class action law suit was thrown out; who has called for a ban on meat products?
    He's another nut-job conspiracy theorist.

  3. Now a major Zogby poll out - half of New Yorkers think the government was involved in 9/11.
Government Insider Magazine says: Bush Authorized 911 Attacks !!!
Stanley Hilton was a senior advisor to Sen Bob Dole (R) and has personally known Rumsfeld and Wolfowitz for decades. This man has risked his professional reputation, and possibly is risking his life, to get this information out to people.
“This (9/11) was all planned. This was a government-ordered operation. Bush personally signed the order. He personally authorized the attacks. He is guilty of treason and mass murder.” –Stanley Hilton

Stanley Hilton: “Our case is alleging that Bush and his puppets Rice and Cheney and Mueller and Rumsfeld and so forth, Tenet, were all involved not only in aiding and abetting and allowing 9/11 to happen but in actually ordering it to happen. Bush personally ordered it to happen. We have some very incriminating documents as well as eye-witnesses, that Bush personally ordered this event to happen in order to gain political advantage, to pursue a bogus political agenda on behalf of the neocons and their deluded thinking in the Middle East. Cheney was in control of the whole thing.”
Stanley Hilton has now gotten documents about how Bush ordered the whole operation.
Bob Dole’s former chief of staff, political scientist, a lawyer, he went to school with Rumsfeld and others, he wrote his thesis about how to turn America into a dictatorship using a fake Pearl Harbor attack. He’s suing the U.S. government for carrying out 9/11. He has hundreds of the victims’ families signing onto it - it’s a $7 billion lawsuit.
    And he is Stanley Hilton.
Don’t you think it is time to do a interview Stanley Hilton on the Daily Show???

  4. quote:"I would relocate or hide all of my WMDs in country like I don't know Syria." is there any evidence of this? can you back up your claim or is this something you threw out to defend the war? that's what I thought. the facts of the matter are: 1) the administration made claims of WMDs of which ZERO ZERE FOUND IN TRAQ as claimed. 2) The invasion/occupation was poorly planned explosing our troops to an unnecessary risk 3) resistence was at the least underestimated, at worst the administration failed to learn from any number of previous conflicts, especially in the middle east. 4) The Iraq intell was at the least incomplete or missing entirely. so: if the administration didn't lie outright to the american people, they are at the very least, incompetent.

  6. BTW, about the same or more number of US soldiers have died in IRAQ and Afghanistan, than in the 911 attacks... and imagine how many innocent people have died in Iraq due to the civil war going on, and the US soldiers' guns.

In the last century, the US military has become maybe the largest mass murderer in the world.

  7. The US has no business on going into other countries and installing puppet govmnts. When you think about it, not just because your neighbor owns a gun, they you go in and kill him...

9/11 has been and continues to be a fallacy, it did happen and it is a disgrace but more people die every year due to the absolutely ridiculous gun control policies in the US due to internal crime, which is the biggest real US terrorist.

Where is osama? I don't think people actually care... The US government is just thinking of ways to keep a fantasy economy on behalf of third world countries...

I just hope the US doesn't find a nuclear deposit in Mexico and decides to invade (to take their oil...).

  8. another correction-Iraq Survey Group said Saddam was within weeks or one month to being compliant-hence, Blair's extension of 45 days.

  9. correction-it should read IAEA's Iraq Survey Group.
One final comment- it was the period of time between March 15-19 that Dubya weighed the final pros and cons.
The fact that both Dubya and Cheney invoked "executive privilege" on that time period says to me they had no valid arguments or proof that Saddam was going to act agressively. Indeed, the Iraq Survey Group was within weeks or 1 month of total compliance. Looks to me like they ALWAYS had wanted to invade Iraq, like a lot of people asserted who were in Dubya's inner circle.

  10. Tonya-if you're a Christian, you DO use a book from BEFORE the Dark Ages, when women were still chattel. It's the Bible. And if you're a good Christian, you are subservient to your husband, if you follow Paul's recommendations, as most Protestant faiths preach.
For others who insist that the Iraq decision was "very hard for them." BS.
Yes, I'll agree that Saddam was defying the sanctions after Desert Storm, right up to November 2002. That's when Dubya's rhetoric became thinly veiled threats that war could be imminent.
Between that time and the first 2 weeks of March, 2003, Saddam only had 6 more missiles to dismantle, after which he'd be in compliance with the sanctions.(Read the IREA's Final Report on Iraq, dated June 2004.) He then asked for more time, and Tony Blair ok'd 45 days with Dubya's consent.(read the Downing Street Memo.)
UN Resolution 1441 was in place after February 2003.
So what then, was the material breach of UN Resolution 1441? That question has YET to be answered. And only Dubya and Cheney know it. What are they hiding from us and the Iraqis, who DESERVE to know????
