The Daily Show with Jon Stewart: You Probably Don't Understand the Iraq War
Former Bush Administration Under Secretary of Defense Douglas Feith was on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart tonight to set the record straight on the Iraq war. Apparently we were not mislead misled into war. I believe him. Unless he's misleading me now...
Anyway, Jon started summer early by firing up the grill and sticking Feith on it. Listen to the defense of a man who was in the room when all the planning went down and decide if it flips your script.

Jon Stewart once again does what the so called main stream media will not do. He asked the hard questions and did not take the bullshit excuses or just let it go. Doug Feith is one of the neocons who brought us this Feith based war and postwar planning disaster from his office of special plans. I wish Jon could get Scooter Libby, Wolfawitz, Richard Perle, and Drs Dick and Don Strangelove themselves. Now that would be better than all the bullshit we have been fed for the last eight years. Thank you so much Jon , you did good.
Catsass, you must have been watching a different video than me. The audience was stone silent for 90% of the interview. I was amazed by how silent the audience was for the interview.
Jon even told one lady who clapped that the beginning of the interview that if the audience kept doing it, it was going to be "a long 10-minutes."
And please tell me that O'Reilly and Rush never interrupt anyone.
Jon, If only the real journalists could ask such probing questions. Thanks for revealing not only the hypocracy of the politicians but also the folly of today's so-called journalists.
Jon,
Once again you put your talent out there, impressing many with your brilliance. Your insight and straightforward approach is refreshing. Thank you for restoring my faith in humanity.
On a cautionary note, you obviously have too much fun and it could make others jealous. Oh wait, it already does. Kudos!
catsass, could you post a link to that show, because it sounds interesting.
"Liberals are know to interupt, be rude, exaggerate, get angry, boo, cuss and make fun of people that have a differing view from their own."
Firstly, all audiences do that. Yes, Bill Maher's is one of the prime offenders, but that's a whole other thing. On this one, it was very low key. They laughed at "Bush's diplomacy", but I'm sorry, it's a pretty far-right wing position that thinks he's a good diplomat.
"There is a real story behind Iraq"
There are lots of them. But a lot of them should have been told before this, which was John's point. To be fair, Feith seems to agree somewhat.
"Feith couldn’t even get started without being degraded and heckled."
That is simply not true, he said an awful lot.
I thought Jon did great. As commented below, he was gracious and polite while he systematically dismantled Feith's points. He listened to the guy and gave him time to make his points, THEN refuted Feith's points. The vast majority of the "real" journalists can't turn out an interview anywhere nearly as classy.
As for the comment of catsass below (a handle that I can't help but feel is appropriate to the contents of the comment), I would challenge him/her to name a single moment in the interview when Jon or the audience heckled or booed Feith. I thought it was a civil discussion.
"Mission Accomplished". And his mission was and is to lie to the public. Why is he not there now doing his part? Chicken shit son of a bitch, coward. I hope he stands trial for the abuse at Abu Greb.
Well, well, well. Get ready you biased fools. Here comes the only decent of the bunch. I watch these, known, far left tv shows to try and stay informed on all view points, but as with the Bill Mahr show the crowd was stacked against any real discussion. Liberals are know to interupt, be rude, exaggerate, get angry, boo, cuss and make fun of people that have a differing view from their own. I saw Feith on the Charlie Rose show a while back and it was a full hour of real discussion; at least Mr. Rose let Feith explain what all levelheaded Americans want to know. There is a real story behind Iraq, but you unreasonable "citizens" ain't about to listen............cause you know it all. Read his book and learn something cause you just heard Jon Stewart's views again and again. Feith couldn't even get started without being degraded and heckled. What a croc of Sh**! P.S. Know your enemies
Jon, After meeting you and your producers in the lobby of LeMeridian over a year ago, I do understand how you could be sooooo kind to Mr. Feith and his STORY,STORY'S. I am in my 70's and to think that this public official can try to tell us that "Mistakes were made" --did he forget to add "Purposely" to his quote? You were positively magnificent in showing what a bunch of liars we have in the Pentagon. I couldn't help but notice that he slid over Mr. Rumsfield, but upon further examination, he did try to put the blame on him--------now that he's not around to take the heat. I am so envious of your intelect and how you weave it into comedy about what is happening to our country. Thanks for keeping the youth of our country informed and pushing them to become participants in the future of America. We need a younger voice to direct this country. I hope that you and Steven and the rest of your gang that you have hatched will continue to lead us to truth and peace
To fan Ken, who feels you interrupted Feith too much, I respectfully disagree. Feith had plenty of time to answer! It was only when he kept trying to peddle the same BS, they seem to figure we all are too stupid to see through, that Jon respectful in choice of words, was . . . "Excuse me, but that is, from many American's point of view, BS, here's why . . . !" Letting Feith carry on without challenge, at least IMHO, is what often makes it hard to watch traditional media interviews. Even when Jon adds his comic touch to some interviews, 98% of the time, he gets the point across, often in a way that is less threatening. As much as I may find some actions deplorable, without a dialog that isn't a shouted tirade, it would be hard to have a dialog at all.
