The Daily Show with Jon Stewart: You Probably Don't Understand the Iraq War
Former Bush Administration Under Secretary of Defense Douglas Feith was on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart tonight to set the record straight on the Iraq war. Apparently we were not mislead misled into war. I believe him. Unless he's misleading me now...
Anyway, Jon started summer early by firing up the grill and sticking Feith on it. Listen to the defense of a man who was in the room when all the planning went down and decide if it flips your script.

It is a sad sign of the times, that we have to turn to Comedy Central to get access to real journalism and thruthful reporting. I grew up in a totalitarian country, and I remember my parents watching comedy shows, because it was the only place where artists could insert a little thruth and government criticism (often at their own peril) in between lines. What happened to our country? The mainstream media is in bed with Wishington DC, while corruption on unprecedented levels runs unchecked. Let's get our country back!... In the meantime, keep on the good work Jon :)
How can Jon not have a problem with the idea of preemptively attacking nations that pose a threat to the US?
Such a preemptive elimination of a threat is fascism. If you can't provide compelling enough evidence to garner support from an international authority such as the UN, to proceed with such a war is no better than Stalin.
And to suggest that the American people were more vulnerable after 9/11 than before is total garbage. The citizenry was more united and easily mobilized than I've seen yet in my lifetime.
Regardless of conspiratorial accusations that could be made within the subtext of the administration, the bottom line is: The ideals that David Feith is claiming that President Bush based his post 9/11 policies on go against fundamental American ideals (ie. Innocent until PROVEN guilty).
Having not checked the schedule, my head almost did a Linda Blair when I found Feith staring back at me from the screen. One of the few (excuses for a) humans I detest as much as Cheney; truly a walking, talking piece of swine excrement. I can only imagine that from here forward Jon will have to offer guests a large towel & lysol for that chair Dougy boy sat in. That, or burn the seat in one of those plasma torches. It's a sad commentary on our country that all prominent neocons are not facing execution or life in prison. Cambone, Wolfy, and Feith - Larry, Moe, & Curly.
Yet again another astounding Daily Show interview. It can't be understated that the importance of asking the important yet difficult questions is slowly leaving the media. We have jack-a**es like O'Reily who bully people with shouting and political undermining, yet never asks a decent question unless it is towards someone on his adjenda (liberals). Stewart has not only hammered on conservatives, he has openly attacked the democratic party because of numerous flubs (especially recently). It is a shame that John can't go to primetime, because Lord knows the elite would never let him get away with some of the things CC does.....but I also think that's what makes his so formidable. He is backed by a knowing public not only because of his charm, but because he actually knows what he's talking about.
Stewart is one of the only talk-showesc interviewers who actually lets someone answer a question anymore. To see Letterman or Leno try and talk to someone is a joke, those two jacka**es don't hold a candle to Stewart, nor deserve to lurk in his shadow. And don't get me started on Conan.
Anyway, I hope that this interview becomes viral. It damn well deserves to be.
This is Jon's forte. Well informed, agile, persistent--but polite. He gets more insights, honesty and perspective from 10' with a politico than mainstream news readers (pretenders to investigative reporting) do in their boring hours of kowtow questioning.
I like that the whole interview is published. Also, I actually get some insight on both sides (even Feith's) instead of a shouting match. Congratulations to Jon on practicing the good journalism I remember him preaching on Hardball for!
It is quite surprising that present US administration thought on Saddan as a threat or "someone to get rid of" (once WMD were not found at all), but at same time it just do nothing about Kim Jong-il, so far North Korea was not "invaded"... sorry... "liberated from a rogue regime".
What about Tibet, Myanmar? Don't they deserve "american freedom" as well?
Then... Why to take "american freedom to Iraq"?
With all respect, but US media make great news and milestones on american fallen ones, sites are generated and present updated information, but how many Iraqi civilian, children and aged people died so far? Who cares?
Many years ago we thought America was a great country, with great contribution to mankind. Today, unfortunatelly, america is synonym of "Abu Ghraib" and "mission accomplished".
This politician is pathetic. He should be judged at the International court in the Hague. He should send his kids to these wars ( Irak / Afghanistan).
I am so happy that Jon programs is accessible abroad.
Watching and listening to this bumbling stumbling not very bright neocon trying to justify this criminal act of illegal war makes me wish we could put them all in an underarmored Humvee and make them drive through the streets of Ramadi. That or put them befor a war crimes tribunal and hang them all.
It's actually an insult to name Bill Maher and John Stewart in the same sentance... Maher could never had executed an interview this well.
Stewart has a command of the facts and an analysis that most liberals or even conservatives do not and he has only risen to the occasion as the war has progressed. It's almost a shame he had a great sense of humor and one of the best programs on television. His insight and discourse is desperately needed in the mainstream media.
