The Daily Show with Jon Stewart: You Probably Don't Understand the Iraq War

POSTED BY: TheInDecider

Former Bush Administration Under Secretary of Defense Douglas Feith was on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart tonight to set the record straight on the Iraq war. Apparently we were not mislead misled into war. I believe him. Unless he's misleading me now...

Anyway, Jon started summer early by firing up the grill and sticking Feith on it. Listen to the defense of a man who was in the room when all the planning went down and decide if it flips your script.

  2. Truth and reality won the day yesterday when Jon Stewart's masterful interview reminded us all how toothless and inane journalism has become, as he thoroughly neutered each of the administration's tired talking points that limped from Feith's lips.

Stewart's refusal to let Feith's salvos of bullsh*it go unanswered is the God sent antidote to the Dumbya Bush's White House who apparently consider "1984" to be a how-to DIY guide.

Any net-savvy volunteers ready to organize a campaign to get Jon Stewart a Peabody?

  3. I personally thought the interview was one of the best bits of broadcast journalism of the last 5 years. Jon knew when to back off, knew how to lead his guest, and knew exactly when to go in for the kill. The unaired unedited version of the interview should be required viewing for every American. I hope those self-serving hacks over at Fox and CNN are weeping in shame right now. A standup comedian hosting a fake news show just pwned their asses.

  4. Jon really edited this one to serve his personal message, but I think even without the edits he layed the smack down on Feith. Go Stuart!

  5. Jon Stewart rocks! Doug Feith kinda sucks. This book is obviously an attempt to spin history the way the Bush Administration wants us to see it, not the way it really happened. Remember those anthrax scares? What about the pre-911 memos by the neo-cons saying they wanted regime change in Iraq? We were lied to because they wanted to go into Iraq and secure our presence. The mission has been accomplished, and that was not victory, but a US presence. One that continues to cost tax payer dollars is just a bonus. I wish the Daily Show could be broadcast in West Virginia though.

  7. Wow!! Jon has just made the main stream media pundits look like wankers. An excellent interview!!

The comments made by Firth seem so similar to the official apologists that tried to put a clean face on the Vietnam war. All deceptive and stupid.

The deception done to justify going into Iraq are no different than those used during the Johnson presidency - the Gulf of Tonkin Incident that never happened fueled the war escalation that got tens of thousands moe killed in that war. I remember discussing this with my narrow-minded sister six years ago. At that time columnist Sydney Schanberg said that we Americans are the ultimate innocents. We are forever desperate to believe that this time the government is telling us the truth.

Perhaps this time we will finally learn: don't trust - always verify.

  8. Jon,

I am an avid watcher of your program and enjoy every minute of it. However, I feel like you are a little bit guilty of what you correctly accuse the Bush administration of, which is only telling the part of the story you want people to hear. I understand that your program could not show the whole interview, but I think you did Mr. Feif a disservice by not showing the portion of the interview in which he gave the reasoning for why they connected Saddam Hussein to the terrorist attacks or future terrorist attacks. I am by no means defending the guy but at least edit in a way that shows a balanced representation of what he was saying.

  9. Thanks Jon!
You have saved us, once again, from the oh so self inflatede cable news talking heads and shown us that there is in fact some intelligence on Cable Television.

  10. They say an abusive husband can make his wife challenge her reality. Don't lie Doug. We all remember what was presented to us.

Why do you think the fucking terrorist guru quit?!
