WaPo Flamed Blog Hails Indecision 2008's Context-Putter-Inner Team

POSTED BY: CubbyChaser

Yesterday, we ran a piece on our blog about an article from the Washington Post's blog calling out the Army's blog, for using its public relations blog to link to a soldier's private blog that said something sorta kinda not nice about Obama. Needless to say, mining the comedy out of that one was easy as pie!

Anyway, it turns out the soldier's blog thought we got the whole thing a lot righter than the Washington Post. And because we're self-righteous attention whores, we're going to reprint the whole thing, right here:

We were linked to today by Comedy Central’s Indecision 2008, and they blew the lid off the cover with the following statement in their article titled: The Army Kinda Sorta Maybe Tangentially Quietly Accidentally Anti-Endorses Obama By Association

“This would all be a non-story, of course, if Mr.Hooah!, weren’t the well-known Counterstrike handle of Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

But as it is, I smell conspiracy.”

I am glad this came to light. People are very confused when they come here from the WaPo article and they keep blaming ME for the article. There are TWO bloggers here. Claire (me) and Mr. Hooah! my husband (a.k.a. International Man of Mystery, Bill Gates, Robert Gates, Robert Redford and his alter ego the Anteater) He wrote the article that, although it was dripping with sarcasm and bitterness, was taken as some gospel word from the military. I am glad that Comedy Central gets it.

There you have it, folks. The Army's official endorsement of Indecision 2008. Get the blogs rollin'!

In the meantime, we're gonna try and leverage this and get us some tanks to play with!

  4. Washington Post Logic: Army Blog + Link = Endorsement. 1 Link = Entire Internet. Ergot, Army endorses the entire internet and its' content.

  5. Thank you, Mr. Hooah! for shining the light on this, and for your child's service.
It's typical of many officers to act as if they're still in the service, giving orders. Force of habit.
However, NO officer has the right to tell service members to keep mum during an election. Not even the CIC. What mission would be "gravely compromised" by removing an "inalienable right"? Again, he's behaving as most officers do-believe that anything say takes precedence over the UCMJ. Which indicates ignorance of it.

  6. Mr. Hooah! THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE. And Claire's.

If I read it all correctly, you have a son or daughter serving now. Thank her/him. I thought your blog was hysterical and I'm an Obama supporter.

Wow, The Great Washington Post is, um, FUBAR. Illogical. Woodward and Bernstein's nest with egg all over it. They tried to flame you and the Army but you guys torched the established media with the far more powerful ammo. Your right to express yourselves. The blog is mightier than the printing press.

Mr. Hooah! You remind me of my best friend and mentor, who I like to call, "Gunner." A Marine Vet and "artie (sp?)" from Vietnam who did two tours and is a self-described "jarhead." He just retired a few months ago from the government and was a Public Defender for decades after the war. I love listening to all of his stories and have learned a great deal from him and our "squid" judge friend. Neither of whom can fish worth a dang. Both are in their 60's (i'm only in my mid 30's) and can honestly say they have helped me understand more about life, duty, country, and sacrifice than anyone or anything.

Hanoi Jane is a still the butt of all of our jokes and usually the music of choice for our fishing adventures is the soundtrack from "Apocalypse Now."

One story that always hits me is when the one where "Gunner" returned home from his tours. They stationed him in Washington, D.C., and armed him on a bus to protect the city from crazy protesters. To this day, he couldn't believe it. He came home and was armed to potentially fight a new "enemy." I try to imagine what it must have been like on that bus looking out of the windows with rabid protesters, being about twenty-one years of age, waiting to see your folks, and still not knowing who the enemy was/is. NOT THIS TIME. ALL WILL COME HOME WITH HONOR AND BE RECOGNIZED AND TREATED LIKEWISE. NO MATTER WHAT.

I couldn't believe what I just read. Sickening. The one thing I know is we don't know the answers on how to resolve Iraq. Also, to respect your elders and those who serve and protect my scrawny little ass. I can't wait to show him your original post. He'll love it. He suffers from a variety of disabilities now and it is really quite sad. His body and boat still work and we go out as much as we can. If not for his amazing legal skills and acumen, it saddens me to know Uncle Sam didn't help others as much as him.

I read a post on your blog about the GI bill. If not for "Gunner's" education, he wouldn't have been able to teach others or have the services he is getting. I don't buy the "retention" argument by McCain. But, honestly, even as an Obama supporter, I do not see how in the world we can pull out now or even in one year or two. Maybe four if Obama uses the best diplomacy skills. It's not like flipping off a light switch. That's why I loved your article when you described dumping out the ammo and understand hyperbole and satire. Yet, I don't think McCain is the better of the two choices for a host of reasons. The GI Bill being just one.

Hope you and Claire find are having a good time of it. I feel like I'm writing "Gunner" and his wife he affectionately calls, "The Commandant." One question, do they still call spaghetti and meatballs "mop strings and meat?"

I don't feel entitled to even write your handle as a way to sign off. But at least ya thought of it! Thanks again.

  7. What? Now we're blaming the campaigns for what journalists do? I don't think that idea would work for McCain over the long haul to November. "Journalists" tend to suck on both sides of the fence. Too bad more can't be like Russert.

On a seperate note, it is my sincere belief that anyone who has ever taken the Oath of Enlistment should oppose McCain. I believe that if you are sworn to "defend the constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic", you should not be supporting a man who seeks to undermine the principles of habeas corpus and freedom of religion, by appointing justices in the model of Scalia.

  8. Heh, look guys ... that journalist knew exactly what he was doing. He is rabidly pro-Obama and saw an opportunity to pressure an Army office AND flame a private blog that he privately didn't like. He got what he wanted and walked away without ever looking back. Never mind that the blog owners and their family are now receiving death threats and death wishes.

Here's the kicker. The journalist claims to have been an Army officer himself.

Way to look out for your brothers in arms, guy. Can you feel the love from the "Hope" and "Change" camp?

  9. While my comment awaits moderation because of the various non-issues the U.S. Army endorsed by simple geometry, I'm glad to know the U.S. army has endorsed the entire internet. Donkey fucking wasn't really breaking news.

  10. EAM: UNITED STATES ARMY ENDORSES THE FOLLOWING WEBSITES:

    http://sgtpepperpolitics.blogspot.com/

    http://google.com/

    httzzzz://AL GORE INVENTED THE INTERNET

    RUN.DMC

    KAKA.P.U.

AND abc's and 123's (good stuff)

Despite that, we maintain there is a cognizable distinction between "public" and "private" blogs and do not recognize the cyber-phenomenon known as "six degrees of blogmutation." Yes, we do endorse 2 chicks 1 cup as well.
