Jesse Ventura Joins Al Franken in Senate Battle Royale
Jesse "The Body" Ventura is getting back into Minnesota politics, this time running for Senate against incumbent Republican Norm Coleman and Democratic challenger and "funny" man Al Franken, because, you know, the race for that seat wasn't gonna be quite wacky enough...
Ventura, born Jim Janos, tells Welna that the main reason he's running is because of Coleman's support for the war in Iraq. "That's the reason I run," he says. "I run because it angers me...
"All you Minnesotans take a good hard look at all three of us. And you decide: if you were in a dark alley which one of the three of us would you want with you?"
Granted, that's probably most appropriate way to choose our elected officials. But I'm not sure that, based upon that logic, Ventura is gonna get the results he wants.
First of all, Ventura just told us that he's angry, and we know he's pretty huge. And if I remember correctly from watching the WWF as a kid, he's kind of shiftless and unpredictable. For all I know, he'd take advantage of the darkness of the alley to whack me with a folding chair.
As for Coleman, I'm really not that familiar with his physique, but because he's a Republican in Congress, I can only assume he's a closeted homosexual. I'm not saying he is, but that does seem to be the trend doesn't it. And if there's one thing I've learned about closeted homosexuals is that they've got a lot of pent up rage. (Plus, if I'm in a dark alley, I'm probably trying to give somebody an abortion, and I don't need no Republicans interfering.)
So, I guess I'd go with Al Franken. I still think he could kick my ass, but probably not as badly as the other two.

The Body tells it like it is: "Win if you can, lose if you must, but always cheat Mean Gene." Wrestling is more honest than politics he correctly points out. Unless God Almighty Himself comes down from the mountaintops, consults with The Body, like He did with GW on his decision to invade Iraq, Ventura will not run for Senate. Jesse has until 5:00 to file. Tune in tomorrow to see if God taps The Body.
Mick Foley For Veep
Well, I voted for him the last time around and he brought some progressive ideas but without party allies in the legislature he really couldn't do much. That just made him even more angry and defiant. I'm right along with Al Franken policy-wise, but he definitely has a 'know it all' quality about him, which voters absolutely hate. I just hope it's public service that compels Jesse to run and not his giant ego.
Is this a Larry-Craig-type "accompany into back alley" or Soprano-type ?
I'm reading his book and find it absolutely fascinating and hopeful. I'm excited that he would run for the senate. Jesse is a get it done kind of guy and if anyone can get us out this mess, it will be him. The press in Minnesota was the problem, not Jesse. Read his book, then vote.
I'm all for Ventura getting back into politics. Garrison Keillor had a great bit about him back when he was governor, I'd love to hear it again. Hey, itt's as valid a reason to elect someone as whether you'd want them with you in dark alley... or whether they eat at an Applebee's buffet....
I think that Jesse will be a real breath of fresh air in the senate. He is a man that only seeks public office when his concience compels him to change something that he sees as wrong. This is in stark contrast to most politicians that view it as a career.
P.S. I am not a scientologist.
Here's a suggestion for a future blog or poll. With the amount of stars getting into the polital arena, why not have a question on which star would be best for each state? For instance, here in Florida, we have a lot of stars living here such as John Travolta. He lives in Ocala, but is always in the Tampa Bay area (My home). I've met him, and he is a swell guy. Perhaps our next Gov.? Let's see what star will be best for different cities and states.Just a suggestion.
"Oh yes a comic like Franken for Govenor of Mn.. What's next? Pauly Shore for Mayor of Los Angeles?
The last time I remember a comedian running for a political office was Pat Paulsen. I always liked him, and he was a good mayor. Al Franken, on the the other hand, has always rubbed me the wrong way. He's lousy at comedy, IMO. And that means he's not in touch with the people. Bad juju.
