Tony Snow, Former White House Press Secretary, Dies of Cancer

Tony Snow -- former Fox News host and possibly the only competent Press Secretary (or staff member, for that matter) of the Bush Administration -- died of colon cancer early this morning at the age of 53...
"America has lost a devoted public servant and a man of character," President Bush said in a statement from Camp David, where he was spending the weekend. "It was a joy to watch Tony at the podium each day. He brought wit, grace, and a great love of country to his work"...
Snow, who served as the first host of the television news program "Fox News Sunday" from 1996 to 2003, would later say that in the Bush administration he was enjoying "the most exciting, intellectually aerobic job I'm ever going to have."
Yeah, I can imagine how that job would be quite a mental workout.
We're sorry to see Tony Snow leave us like this (it's bad enough he left us with Dana Perino), and our hearts go out to his family for their loss.
Here's Snow, back in October 2007, sitting down with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show...
Part 2 is after the jump.

Snow was one of the good guys. Even when he was working for an organization I dislike (Fox) and an administration I dislike (Bush) I enjoyed his work, his candor, and the twinkle in his eye. And we are the same age. I'll miss him.
the tony snow interview was one of the best interviews the show's ever done. always admired Tony for his honesty regarding why he left his position. in the PR business (im a PR guy myself) it can be difficult to maintain that level of integrity.
As a hippy green queer progressive I always judge Republicans by the respect they get from people like Jon (and their willingness to do shows like TDS.) And by that measure Tony Snow was one of the best. It is sad such a decent man left this Earth. My thoughts go out to his family.
Sad to see anyone die of cancer, especially when they're only 53.
I always admired Tony Snow for being totally honest about why he quit. No long-winded speeches about spending time with his family - they just weren't paying him enough for doing the unpleasant work as press secretary.
A reminder that there are decent Republicans.
I admire Jon Stewart SO MUCH for the way he argues. He makes the most convincing arguments in the most respectful way that leaves even people who completely disagree with him like the guy. If every liberal could argue as eloquently as Jon does, this country would be better off. Because we'd convince some people, and those whom we couldn't convice would at least really like us.
