Let's Talk About Mitt Romney Because It's a Slow News Day

POSTED BY: CubbyChaser

What does Mitt Romney think about getting pushed out of the Republican nomination race a few months ago after spending $35 million of his own money?

"In some respects it's ideal," Romney said only half-jokingly as he sat down for an exclusive national interview with CBSNews.com before addressing the crowd at the opening of John McCain's Great Lakes regional headquarters. "Get out of the race just before summer so you can spend some time with the family at the beach."

Now, a $25 million summer vacation I can understand. We all overspend a little bit on vacations, but that extra $10 million just seems excessive to me.

But while we've already dug out and dusted off that Romney photo above, we might as well engage in a little baseless vice-presidential speculation...

Since dropping out of the Republican race in February, he has gone from being John McCain's fiercest rival to one of the Arizona senator's most visible surrogates. What was inconceivable during the height of their primary battles, the prospect of a McCain/Romney ticket, is now a real possibility.

The most obvious assets that Romney would bring to the Republican ticket include his economic expertise, fundraising prowess and potential to give McCain a boost in more than one battleground state.

Yeah, he has amazing "fundraising prowess"! Who else do you know who can raise $35 million from one guy?

  1. Having lived in Utah during the Olympics I can tell you that Romney only did two things for the games: 1) Enabled the LDS Church to put a finally put a Mormon face on the games, and 2) Enabled the Olympic organizers to sweep all the corruption and bribery scandals under the carpet by having him say, "That was the past, I don't want to talk about the past, we are looking to the future." every five minutes.

  2. Romney is the bomb. The hard thing to swallow for you lefties is the fact that Romney has donated his paychecks (with the Olympics and as Governor of Mass.) and then you spin it and come out and complain that Romney is spending....his own money...on his own campaign. A man can do whatever the heck he wants with his own money. He earned it....your lazy blogging rump didn't. Eat up the fact that Romney is capable of making that $35 million back and more and all the while you will continue to write these stupid, pointless blogs complaining about life and not changing it for the better. Clowns....

  3. Romney has proved himself as a man with smarts and of accomplishments. He assisted companies become more productive and cost efficient. You want to succeed in America? Keep learning. More about your current job and other vocations. Then you'll never be "laid off" or "outsourced"---at least not to your detriment. My father always liked to say, "Some people think the world owes them a living"...and it's true!

  4. oh MK, do you know Romney inherited wealth? And then took that money and made a ton more by buying up companies, laying off the workers and outsourcing the jobs?

I sure hope they name him VP because when those "middle Americans" find out a little more abour slick Mitt they'll not be too happy

  5. Sounds like somebody is jealous of other people who work hard and earn their own money. The fact that Romney is wealthy makes me realize what a smart man he is and that he would be a great asset in Washington.
