Republican Senators Allowed to Respect Voters' Wishes... For the Time Being

POSTED BY: CubbyChaser

In case you weren't feeling too cynical about your elected representatives this morning, I humbly present this piece of reportage...

Republican Senate leaders -- terrified by the prospect of losing five or more seats in November -- have freed their members to vote however they need to vote to get reelected, even if that means bucking the president or the party's leadership...

It's unusual for rank-and-file members to get a green light to blow off their party leaders. But these are unusual times for Republicans. They are genuinely worried they could get their clocks cleaned in November. The prevailing attitude: It is better to lose some big votes now than big races in November.

Wow! GOP leaders are actually letting their senators vote in accordance of their constituents wishes? How very magnanimous of them.

Just try and tell me our two-party democracy isn't broken. Just try!

  1. Vote according to the wishes of their constituents or their lobbyists and contributors?

  2. Actually, I'd hope they'd vote for what they think is *right*, not for what will get them elected.

But I love that the party is ordering them not to do what the party tells them to do. Amusing, isn't it?

  3. Ok, I'll give it a try, Cubby!

You know things are bad when Republicans actually give a damn what their constituents want, over their own party's agenda.
