Say what you will about Joe Lieberman -- call him a traitor to his constituents, a political opportunist, a warmonger, a slimeball... go on, do it; it's fun -- but the guy is still a Democrat in some very minute sense of the word. Right?

So, even though he's endorsing and campaigning right alongside John McCain, you have to imagine that Lieberman, a former Democratic VP nominee himself, would draw the line somewhere. I mean, he'd never actually stoop so low as to state in very clear words that a fellow senator and a fellow Democrat does not actually give a shit about America...

"In my opinion, the choice could not be more clear: between one candidate, John McCain, who's had experience, been tested in war and tried in peace, another candidate who has not,'' Mr. Lieberman said.

"Between one candidate, John McCain, who has always put the country first, worked across party lines to get things done, and one candidate who has not. Between one candidate who's a talker, and the other candidate who's the leader America needs as our next president."

One candidate who does not want to sell your daughters to Islamofascist clerics to live as sex slaves in their harems, and... well, Barack Obama.

All I can say is: Thank God that John McCain is a classier guy than Lieberman. I'm sure that Senator Straight Talk was quick to renounce and reject Senator Smeagol's comments...

Just moments ago, the McCain campaign emailed out the same Lieberman quote to its full press list -- putting its official stamp of approval on Lieberman's assertion.

Excuse me. I'll be in the closet, stabbing myself in the eye with a pen.
