Country Music: Not Just for Republicans Anymore

POSTED BY: Ethan Ris

At the DNC in Denver last night, the crowd had just finished listening to Barack Obama's incredibly well-received acceptance speech when they found themselves asking a universal question:

"What is that enchanting music?"

Turns out the Obama campaign selected "Only in America" by the country duo Brooks & Dunn as the exit music after the newly-anointed nominee's speech. The Democrats in attendance had been expecting a more apropos song – perhaps by the Black Eyed Peas, or even Mohamed Abdel Wahab. Instead, they found themselves rocking out to lyrics better suited to a truckstop jukebox than the DNC:

Only in America
Dreaming in red, white and blue
Only in America
Where we dream as big as we want to
We all get a chance
Everybody gets to dance
Only in America

Can you imagine the angst of those liberals when they found themselves not hating – even enjoying – this country song? They would have been absolutely mortified if they had known that "Only in America" was the theme song for George W. Bush's 2004 campaign!

  1. In another crazy stunt (besides vpiWNLf - dude, seriously - she looks like a home ec teacher) to seem not ancient, not crazy rich, not crusty whiteguy, and not sexist, BUT still court the key message of the GOP (conservative as shee-it, to be official) the McCain camp unveiled today the theme song will be OutKast's "Bombs Over Baghdad."

See - he courts the cool kids crowd while the lyrics actually talk about more war and more oil - which only rich white guys will bother to google!

I'll bet that genius Karl Rove thought it allll up. :)

  2. McCain will follow his speech with Ludacris: "Get Back" since Obama doesn't want him anymore.

  3. It was the only choice remaining. You see, Daddy Yankee's Gasolina will be played next week.
