John McCain does seem intent on hitting Barack Obama over his supposedly wanting to go to third base Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Only problem is: Ahmadinejad isn't actually the leader of Iran. The Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is. (Hence the "Supreme Leader" thing.)

Here's Joe Klein from Time discussing the matter directly with McCain...

One of the following things must be true...

a) John McCain doesn't actually know who the leader of Iran is.
b) John McCain is being disingenuous to some weird political end.
c) Joe Klein is splitting hairs to make John McCain look dumb because he's a jerk.
d) Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Ayatollah Ali Khamenei are actually the same person.
e) All of the above.
