Of Course: Joe the Plumber Plots 2010 Run for Congress
There is something wonderfully, horribly American about this, this thing I am going to tell you. It is like Michael Bay movies and deep-fried Twinkies and Boston drivers and Flavor Flav's career. Our founding fathers fanned the flickering light of democracy so we could reach this moment, here, today...
Joe Wurzelbacher, the most famous plumber in America thanks to John McCain and Sarah Palin, told conservative talk radio host Laura Ingraham Friday he's considering a run for Congress in 2010...
Wurzelbacher, who gained fame after he challenged Barack Obama on his tax plan earlier this month, has attained a certain rock-star status in the Republican Party and his entrance into the race would likely be greeted with instant excitement and media coverage.
Ingraham herself said she would immediately volunteer for his campaign and help him with campaign advertising and PR. Meanwhile, the National Republican Congressional Committee said they would welcome Wurzelbacher's candidacy with "open arms."
I'm no Jane the Political Consultant, but I've got an idea for an ad the Democrats could run against Wurzelbacher in 2010.
Imagine a television spot that opens with a shot of Joe the Plumber talking to a crowd of reporters... cameras, flashbulbs popping... and a voiceover, something like, "he's the biggest celebrity in Ohio. But is he ready to lead?" Then cut to a shot of Britney Spears, another of Paris Hilton, and then -- for good measure -- an image of his biggest intellectual elite celebrity supporter.
I know! It's fantastic, isn't it? The concept just popped into my head somehow.
