Smackdown: Gingrich vs. Palin in 2012!

POSTED BY: Ethan Ris

The Great Republican Smackdown of 2012 is already gearing up!  Non-Republicans might be very amused to hear this, but the big fight shaping up is between two truly unlikely individuals: Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich.

Each is stridently conservative, each is widely regarded as a loser, and each is being talked up for president in 2012.  (You can read about Palin's delusional advocates here and Gingrich's delusional advocates here.)

Now, in the first shot across the bow, Gingrich is smacking down Palin's viability...

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) is batting down the hype that Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin heads into 2012 as the frontrunner for the GOP presidential nomination.

Palin energized the Republican base after GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain (Ariz.) tapped her as his running mate and she has tried to preserve her high public profile since Election Day.

But Gingrich, an architect of the Republican revolution of 1994, took Palin down a notch, asserting that she would not become the party’s leader, as some have predicted.

“I think that she is going to be a significant player,” said Gingrich during an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation”. “But she’s going to be one of 20 or 30 significant players. She’s not going to be the de facto leader.”

Meanwhile, we can only presume that Gingrich is thinking of himself as that de facto leader.  At least if he reads Bob Novak's column.

Stay tuned for more updates on who will claim the prize of serving as 2012's Barry Goldwater.

Should Sarah Palin Call Her Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer?

POSTED BY: Matthew Tobey

Everyone congratulated Sarah Palin for being such a good sport on last weekend's SNL, but Newt Gingrich is being a big thin-skinned baby on her behalf...

[F]ormer House Speaker Newt Gingrich claimed that Saturday Night Live's skits mocking Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin were "vicious" and a "total distortion of who Governor Palin is."

Gingrich said that some of the sketches, particularly one mocking reporters for pursuing unsubstantiated claims about the Palins, "were slander and were worthy of a lawsuit."

Sure, Newt is being a little insane about all this, but you kind of can't blame him for having a vendetta against SNL.

Those "Two Assholes" sketches really are unfair to his people.

LAST COMMENT:

But would he cross-dress? he is a republican so yes.

Vote Republican or Become the Butt of Their Attacks

POSTED BY: Dylan Ris

In Karl Rove's GOP, you're either with us or you're against everything that makes America great.

Consider how the following blue states, large cities, and newspapers have incensed the conservative base for their fatal transgression of not supporting Republicans...

* San Francisco: The term "San Francisco values" is bandied about by the likes of Bill O'Reilly and Newt Gingrich with a subtext usually reserved for "Nazi medical research."

* Massachusetts: George W. Bush has taken great glee in mocking the state over the years, once declaring in a debate: "I'll tell you what pay-go means when you're a senator from Massachusetts, when you're a colleague of Ted Kennedy - pay-go means you pay and he goes ahead and spends."

* Chicago: Yesterday in New Mexico, John McCain boasted, "I don't need lessons about telling the truth to the American people. And were I ever to need any improvement in that regard, I probably wouldn't seek advice from a Chicago politician."

* The East Coast In General: During her vice presidential debate with Joe Biden, Sarah Pa
