Barack Obama Names Some Guy Head of CIA

POSTED BY: Dennis DiClaudio

Barack Obama has a new choice for Director of Central Intelligence, and it's somebody you never would have thought of.

Most likely because it's someone you never ever think of ever...

President-elect Barack Obama has selected Leon E. Panetta, the former congressman and White House chief of staff, to take over the Central Intelligence Agency, an organization that Mr. Obama criticized during the campaign for using interrogation methods he decried as torture, Democratic officials said Monday.

Oh, so first Obama criticized the organization and now he's appointing people to direct it. Typical political posturing.

Mr. Panetta has a reputation in Washington as a competent manager with strong background in budget issues, but has little hands-on intelligence experience...

Aides have said Mr. Obama had originally hoped to select a C.I.A. head with extensive field experience, especially in combating terrorist networks.

Unfortunately, it's probably pretty difficult task to find anybody with any decent amount of CIA experience and no record of performing or supporting torture.

They don't exist.

Sacramento GOP Pro-Waterboarding... of Barack Obama

POSTED BY: G. Xavier Robillard

John McCain has been steadfastly anti-torture, except when the CIA does it, but that doesn't mean that the GOP is following in lock step.

California's Sacramento Valley Republicans spelled out in an ad that not only do they believe in torture, they believe torture can be applied to standing US Senators who are running for president. And aren't in jail, or accused of any crime.

You know that law about how it's illegal to even talk about plans to kill the president? It looks like that one's going to get a bit of a workout should Obama win.

This ad is really good timing for the Republicans, as recent polls have shown that voters are really sick of negative campaigning. Because this clearly isn't negative. Demented and sad, but not negative.

John McCain has repudiated many of the more debased attacks against Obama by surrogates and supporters, but he apparently missed this one, since he's very busy moving staff out of states he can't win.

C.I.A. Takes Communist Torture Techniques, Turns Them Into American Lemonade

POSTED BY: CubbyChaser

This, friends, this is what makes America the great country that it is...

The military trainers who came to Guantanamo Bay in December 2002 based an entire interrogation class on a chart showing the effects of "coercive management techniques" for possible use on prisoners, including "sleep deprivation," "prolonged constraint," and "exposure."

What the trainers did not say, and may not have known, was that their chart had been copied verbatim from a 1957 Air Force study of Chinese Communist techniques used during the Korean War to obtain confessions, many of them false, from American prisoners.

The recycled chart is the latest and most vivid evidence of the way Communist interrogation methods that the United States long described as torture became the basis for interrogations both by the military at the base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and by the Central Intelligence Agency.

We take something warped, inhuman and depraved from a godless, authoritarian country like Communist China with no moral values, and we turn it into something beautiful and patriotic like apple pie, baseball or military imperialism.

Through American know-how and gee whiz gumption, we took disgusting torture techniques like "sleep deprivation," "prolonged constraint," and "exposure," and turned them into interrogation techniques like "freedom wakefulness," "liberty cramping" and "exposure to how bitchin' America is, motherfucker."

Let the mighty eagle soar.
